Mini-Camp Report: R.J. Jackson

Houston Westside tailback R.J. Jackson made the trip to Austin this weekend and said he had a really good time. We caught up with him to get the details of his camp performance/Forty Acres visit.

"Ahh man, it was a real good workout," R.J. Jackson said. "A real good work out."

"The best thing about the camp were the coaches," said the state's No. 9 prospect. "I mean all of the coaches were cool."

Mike Haywood, the Texas recruiting coordinator who also coaches running backs, would be Jackson's position coach at UT and the two hit it off once again.

"Coach Haywood is just cool. He's real laid back and you can talk to him about anything. You can talk to him like he's one of your homeboys."

And Mack Brown?

"Mack Brown is great. And he's a player's coach."

The Westside running back said he spent a lot of time hangin' with Colt McCoy. As one might expect, the future Longhorn signal caller did a little recruiting himself.

"Colt told me why he picked Texas and how he thought it was a good situation for him. He said he thought it would be a good situation for me, too."

And nothin' like being recruited by college superstar QB Vince Young.

"He's been tellin' me, 'Keep it in the district'."

Top performers in Jackson's eyes?

"Colt McCoy, (Jr.-to-be) Arlington Bowie QB Sherrod Harris, Texas City RB Vincent Pervis. I didn't get to see everybody, but I know DeMarcus Granger was there."

UT scholarship offer news?

"Coach Brown told me to call him tomorrow," Jackson said.

Folks, if the last couple of Inside Scoops have told us anything, I think we know what will happen tomorrow. And that is a certain 'back from the same district as VY, Andrew Kelson, George Walker and Brian Orakpo, will land a scholarship from UT.

"I've researched the teams quite a bit," Jackson who had earlier said he intended on making an early commitment. "I could make a decision within the next two weeks."

The Horns appear to be in very good shape.
