Mini-Camp Report: DeMarcus Granger

DeMarcus Granger, as expected, made the trip to the Forty Acres this past Sunday for UT's June 13th mini-camp. We caught up with the state's No. 4 to grab a few more interesting details regarding that visit and the recent LSU camp, plus a lot more on his recruitment to date.

"Everything was good," said DeMarcus Granger about the Texas mini-camp.

The Dallas Kimball DT, who has the personality of a gentle giant off the field, added: "I just stayed for a couple of hours though. But I still got in a good workout."

Good enough to grab an up-close look at New Mexico DE Aaron Lewis, who just recently received his fourth offer (from Texas).

"Aaron Lewis was the best I saw," said the Metroplex senior-to-be. "He stood out the most."

Granger said he spoke to several UT coaches while in Austin, so we grabbed a few one-liners from him on a few members of the Texas staff...

On (HC) Mack Brown: "He said I'm on the top of their list."

On (TE coach) Bruce Chambers: "We just talked about other stuff. Like how he and one of my high school coaches played together. We just talked."

On (DT coach) Mike Tolleson: "Coach Tolle is cool guy. He's real cool."

Granger said he really liked his trip to Baton Rouge, too.

"I liked talking to Coach Saban," said the 6-3, 320-pounder (who said he's down to 315 now). "He a real cool guy. Real down-to-earth."

When we caught up with him earlier in the week, the Lone Star State DT said he thought he'd be heading to "Tennessee this Thursday".

Also on the camp agenda is Texas A&M.

Speaking of the Aggies, speculation in some circles has had the Kimball blue-chipper favoring UT, OU and LSU and backing away from the Maroon and White. But Granger said he's still very interested in A&M and will attend their July 18th camp.

More to come in this week's Inside Scoop.
