Recruiting: Chris Hall Still Considering Options

Chris Hall made a verbal commitment to SMU during his sophomore in high school. Now, after receiving multiple offers, is Hall still a solid commitment to SMU?

Hall knew the question was coming, and it had to be asked. Is he still committed to SMU?

"I'm committed, but I've let the SMU coaches know that I'm going to check out some of my options," said the Irving High OL. "It is not like I'm going behind their back, but I owe it to myself to check out some of these programs."

Hall, who holds offers from Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Baylor, Louisiana-Monroe, and UTEP, also knows it will be tough to tell the SMU coaches he is going elsewhere.

"My brother, Zach, will be a redshirt freshman middle linebacker there this year, and my former teammate, tight end Vincent Chase, is the guy I lined up alongside for the past couple years. His brother, Bobby, is a wide receiver there so I have a lot ties to the school."

There are four schools that Hall plans to check out, including a visit he will make this Thursday to Stillwater, Oklahoma. He will visit Texas Tech in early August, and has tentative plans to make official visits to both Florida and Iowa.

One visit already made was to Austin, Texas.

"I took a visit there this summer because they asked me to come down. They informed me they would only be signing 15 guys in this class, including two offensive linemen, but that I was on their board. I know they've offered (Reggie) Youngblood out of Houston, and I'm probably #2 or #3 on their board after him. I grew up a Longhorn fan, my family is all Longhorn fans, and that is the program we've always followed so I certainly have interest."

If the Longhorns were to come through with an offer this fall, would it be too late for them to join the picture?

"No, not at all, they would definitely be one of my top three schools. They would be my favorite now if they had offered, but I know they at least have some interest if they wanted me to come down and take a visit."

What are Hall's current thoughts on the other four programs currently under consideration?

Oklahoma State: "Stillwater is a cool town, and the program is on the rise. They have beat the Big 12 champs the past two years, and they run an offense similar to ours here at Irving."

Texas Tech: "They are a top three school in this state. They score a ton of points, and it would be cool to play in that type of offensive system. Coach (Mike) Leach is a player's coach, and the entire side of West Texas is devoted to Texas Tech football. There is nothing else there besides the Red Raiders."

Florida: "Florida is Florida, all you have to do is look back at Coach Spurrier and the tradition that has been built there. The swamp is unbelievable, and it is now built to hold over 90,000 people. They also have Chris Leak there."

Iowa: "Iowa is the best place in the nation for an offensive lineman to attend. They continue to put guys in pros every year. They are another program on the rise, having just been Big 10 champs two years ago, and who wouldn't want to attend a prestigious Big 10 program like Iowa's?"
