Cedric Benson fights for yards in the first quarter against Colorado. The True freshman totaled 79 yards on 13 carries before being forced to the bench with a stinger suffered in a collision with OL Mike Williams on CU's second quarter INT return for a TD. Benson moved into first place on the UT freshman rushing list, finishing the season with 1,053 yards. (ALLSPORT/ Brian Bahr)

Colorado RB Chris Brown scores one of his three TDs on the day. The Buffs' bruising tailback carried much of the offensive load for the guys in black, rushing 33 times for 182 yards. (ALLSPORT/ Brian Bahr)

Major Applewhite points tauntingly at the Colorado bench after throwing a 79-yard TD pass to B.J. Johnson on his second play of the game. The score pulled the Horns to within a manageable 12 points at the half. (ALLSPORT/ Brian Bahr)

Major strikes a very different pose in the third quarter after the Horns failed to convert on third down. Applewhite led the team on three long drives in the third and early fourth quarter, but he couldn't get the O in the end zone, instead settling for three field goal tries. Dusty Mangum missed one of those three point attempts, the difference in what turned out to be a two point game. (ALLSPORT/ Brian Bahr)

Applewhite, in relief of the injured Chris Simms, completed 15 of 25 attempts for 240 yards and two TDs in a little over two quarters of work. "Regardless of the first half, we had chances to win the ballgame," the UT senior said. "We did not do it. We had so many opportunities to get back in this ballgame. Even after all of the turnovers we still had a chance to win the ballgame and we didn't get it done. You can't put it on the coaches, you've got to put it on the players. We did not get it done, end of discussion." (ALLSPORT/ Brian Bahr)

On a crucial third-and-16 early in the third quarter, Colorado receiver Derek McCoy outfights UT's Quentin Jammer for the football, setting up the Buffs for a lead-stretching TD two plays later. As poorly as the Texas offense played at times, the defense also faltered in crucial situations like the one pictured above. (ALLSPORT/ Brian Bahr)
