Lane, who originally committed to the Aggies almost a year ago, began to back off after tripping to Austin in the latter part of the 2003 season to see a game where he visited with Tyler Lee LB/DE Nic Redwine, an eventual '04 Texas signee. Redwine told us back then that he didn't really think Lane's verbal to the Maroon and White could be described as solid. And that turned out to be true.
So, with just a month to go before the '04 football season, and kids swapping their list of faves around, who does Lane like now?
"Texas, Oklahoma State, Washington State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma," Lane said.
According to the 6-0/6-1, 240-pounder, he has received offers from all five of his choices.
His thoughts on his faves?
Lane: They have a chance to compete for a national title.
Dean: Oklahoma State?
Lane: They said they could use a big back and that I'm the one they're looking for.
Dean: Washington State?
Lane: They said they can use me in different sets besides just being in the backfield. They've talked about lining me up in the slot.
Dean: Texas A&M?
Lane: I'm still looking at them. I'm going to see how they do this season.
Lane: They're my fifth team to make up a top five. They're an excellent football team so I'm looking at them a little bit also.
