"It was a great game," Eric said. "It boiled down to who was going to score at the end. They did and we didn't. We had 400 yards and really ran the ball well, so it was a good finish to the end of a season that didn't begin all that well. It was the type of game you could play the next week and win."
Winston was asked about Fossil Ridge quarterback Zac Dahman.
"I stood next to him at the coin toss and thought, ‘this guy isn't very big,'" Eric said. "But I'll tell you one thing, he's a tough little son of a gun. I got a couple of good shots on him at defensive tackle and he got right up. Zac reads defenses well and isn't afraid to step up in the pocket and let it go. He could do well in the right system.'
Eric was asked about his trip to College Station last weekend.
"I had a great time," he continued. "It was my brother's 21st birthday, I hadn't seen him in a long time and we celebrated that. It was the first time I had the opportunity to meet some of the players, so the visit went real well."
"And what about Miami this weekend?"
"I'm really looking forward to the trip," Eric said. "We're going to leave on Friday morning. (Cane TE) Jeremy Shockey will be my guest host."
What happens after Miami?
"It gets a little sketchy after that," he said. "I'll probably visit Michigan on January 12th and LSU the following weekend. I will definitely visit Texas. I also may cancel one of the visits to LSU or Michigan for Notre Dame. I'm just going to wait and see how it goes."
Any current leanings?"
"No, it's pretty much like we had discussed way back in April," Eric said. "I'm going to make all my visits first and keep an open mind throughout the process. Then, I'll reach my decision."
For the season, Winston caught 20 passes for 210 yards with three touchdowns and was named 2nd All-District at defensive tackle after playing in only two games there.
