Roddrick Muckelroy Chooses Texas

Texas added another commitment this week when Roddrick Muckelroy called Duane Akina Friday to pass on the news that he was ready to become a Longhorn. We caught up with the Hallsville linebacker to grab a few details...

"I told you a long time ago, when you came out back in February to see me, that Texas was my top choice," Roddrick Muckelroy said regarding why he elected to pull the commitment trigger now. "And it was the same thing every time. Texas has always been my top team, so I did it. Plus, I've been wanting to get the pressure (of the recruiting process) off of my back."

The Lone Star State's No. 20th-ranked prospect (overall) said his intentions to end the suspense was put into motion earlier this week...

"I was thinking about getting it over with at the start of this last week and then Thursday night, I told my mom and dad what I wanted to do. They were really happy about it because it's close to home. And, they can come and see me play. Then, Friday, after our pep rally, I told my (high school) coaches I wanted to call Texas and commit so we called Coach Akina."

According to the 4-star LB who could play inside or outside, the Texas Co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach was very excited but Muckelroy has yet to speak with the Longhorn head coach Mack Brown...

"I'll probably talk to Coach Brown this weekend, sometime."

Other Notes: Muckelroy has been studying up for the ACT and will take it again next weekend. He needs to bump his score up a couple more points in order to qualify. Regarding his official visit to Austin, the Hallsville senior told us last week and again today that he'll take that trip to UT on Brown's Banquet Weekend (December 10-12).
