Injury Update: Rod Wright

Head coach Mack Brown cited NCAA legislation from preventing him from commenting on whether LDT Rodrique Wright (ankle) practiced Tuesday. Brown's rule of thumb is that if a player has not practiced by Wednesday, he does not play on Saturday.

But I can tell you that I passed Wright as I made my way to the evening post-practice interview session and it didn't appear at all that he had taken a snap. Wright was wearing a boot on the ankle that he injured against Rice Saturday, and was in shorts and t-shirt. He arrived approximately 30 minutes ahead of his teammates.

Truth be told, there is no way Texas should risk re-aggravating Wright's injury against Baylor and one week before You Know Who. Texas wins by 40 with or without Wright. And while you hate the circumstances, what Orangeblood isn't looking forward to seeing what is shaping up as prep All-American Frank Okam's first start at RDT?

Robinson would not comment on the cutback block that downed Wright.

"You know, it happens. That stuff happens. It's unfortunate but it happens."

RDT Larry Dibbles had this to say: "I know that, spiritually, he's feeling good. But as far as the physical, the way he's feeling as far as his injury right now, I'm not sure."

I asked Dibbles if Wright's injury translated into additional responsibility or the likelihood of double-teams for himself, despite having logged just two career starts. Indicative of the new Larry Dibbles, his response was team-centered: "I have a lot of faith in every one that takes the field. I think we have guys in our three-deep that could be anywhere else in the nation starting. I have confidence in everyone that tries to take the field. I'm just gonna go out there and try to take care of my assignment and have faith in my teammates to take care of their assignments."
