Texas Stays Put At No. 5/6

Texas held onto its No. 5 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, while remaining at No. 6 in the Associated Press poll released on Sunday.

The Horns are one of four Big 12 South teams listed in the latest rankings. The Big 12, PAC-10 and SEC have each placed two teams in the Top 8 while the Big 10, for the first time this season, does not have a squad listed in the Top 10.

The top four slots in both polls are identical with Southern California manning the top position. Oklahoma trails USC after shutting out Baylor 35-0. Auburn remains a spot behind the Sooners at No. 3 after fending off Alabama 21-13. After blowing out Stanford 41-6, California holds onto its No. 4 position in the polls.

With a 52-21 win over Brigham Young, Utah stays a spot behind the Longhorns at No. 6 in the Coaches poll, but remains ahead of Texas at No. 5 in the AP poll.

Louisville and Georgia are flip-flopped in the two polls with Georgia above Louisville at the No. 7 spot in the Coaches poll (No. 8 in the AP), while the Cardinals beat out the Bulldogs for the No. 7 position in the AP poll (No. 8 in Coaches).

Miami moved up to No. 9 in both polls following a win over Wake Forest. An undefeated Boise State trails the Hurricane at No. 10 after crushing Louisiana Tech.

A weekend full of rivalries cost some teams their Top 10 position as Michigan, Florida State and Wisconsin all fell from their top tier positions.

Texas A&M held onto its No. 22 spot in both polls, while Oklahoma State remains at No. 23 in the polls, as both teams were idle this past weekend.

Texas faces Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. Friday at DKR. The contest will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
