NFL Texas Exes: Vasher Snags Another INT

Inside Texas keeps an eye focused each week on Longhorn alums now playing on Sundays.

Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning tore apart the Chicago defense, but CB Nathan Vasher managed an interception against last year’s co-MVP. On the first possession of the second half, the rookie defensive back picked off a Manning toss in the end zone and returned the ball 30 yards giving Vasher his fourth INT of the season. He also posted a tackle in the game, but the Colts crushed the Bears 41-10.

While the Chicago secondary limited Manning to only 211 passing yards, the Indianapolis passer threw for four touchdowns.

Vasher’s four picks on the year put the rookie in a tie for third in the entire NFL. Also impressive, Vasher has accumulated that statistic while only playing in 6 of his team’s 10 games.

Cory Redding had only one tackle for Detroit but the pull down resulted in points for the Lions, as the lineman caught Minnesota RB Onterrio Smith in the Vikings’ end zone to give Detroit a safety. The two points created by Redding extended Detroit’s lead to eight points in the third quarter.

DT Shaun Rogers racked up four tackles for Detroit, but the Lions defense failed to prevent a Minnesota fourth quarter comeback. After leading 17-7 at the half, Detroit forfeited 15 unanswered points in the last quarter to give the Vikings a 22-19 win.

In Detroit’s fourth-straight loss, the Lions’ defense gave up over 300 yards. Wide receiver Roy Williams had only two catches for 19 yards, but the rookie still leads his Detroit squad in receiving with 459 yards and five touchdowns on the season.

OG Dan Neil played for Denver and helped pave way for Broncos RB Reuben Droughns to reach 166 yards on the ground. Denver defeated New Orleans 34-13.

OG Leonard Davis and his Arizona squad fell victim to Carolina 35-10. The Cardinals managed only 85 rushing yards, but Davis and the O-line helped allow QB Shaun King to pass for 343 yards.

OT Mike Williams manned a Buffalo O-line that racked up 37 points in a 37-17 victory over St. Louis. In the win, the Bills rushed for over 100 yards.

The usually reliable K Phil Dawson had an off day that contributed to a Cleveland loss to the New York Jets 10-17. After connecting on 27 straight field goals coming into the game, Dawson missed two kicks wide right on Sunday.

CB Quentin Jammer tallied three tackles and his surging San Diego team defeated Oakland 23-17. The Chargers' defense gave up 227 yards in the air but shut out the Raiders' ground game, giving up only 53 rushing yards.

DTs Marcus Tubbs and Cedric Woodard both registered a tackle for Seattle, and Tubbs added a forced fumble as the Seahawks beat Miami 24-17. Seattle's D-line held the Dolphins to just 69 rushing yards in the win.

OG Derrick Dockery played for Washington but the season’s struggles continued for the Redskins as Philadelphia beat the 'Skins 28-6. Washington rushed for only 51 yards in the loss.

RB Priest Holmes sat out of Monday night’s Kansas City contest against New England. The league’s touchdown leader is sidelined due to a knee injury.
