Hoops: P.J. Tucker To Miss Remainder Of Season

Sophomore forward P.J. Tucker, the Longhorns' leader in scoring (13.7 ppg) and rebounding (8 rpg) through 17 games, will miss the remainder of the season.

The University released a statement Thursday afternoon that Tucker had been declared academically ineligible, confirming fears that had circulated since at least week. According to the school's release, Tucker will continue his classwork at Texas and continue to practice with the team, but he's not eligible for competition.

"I have some academic issues I need to take care of in order to return to the team," Tucker said in the statement. "I'm really disappointed that I'm going to have to miss the remainder of the season. I feel like I've let a lot of people down, including myself. I'll spend the spring and summer focusing on my academics so that I can return to the team next fall."

Texas will face its first test without Tucker Saturday when the Horns travel to Norman to take on No. 18/21 Oklahoma (14-2, 3-0). The Sooners are a half-game behind Kansas in the league standings. Rick Barnes' bunch owns a five-game win streak over OU.
