Recruiting: Austin On Itinerary For S.C. DT

T L Hanna HS DT Ben Alexander (Anderson, S.C.) is one of the top prospects in the Palmetto State and is another top out-of-state prospect that is taking a look at Texas. But are the Horns taking a look at him?

Ben Alexander told IT that he hasn't talked to any of the Texas coaches personally, but his Head Coach has talked to a member of the UT Staff. The Palmetto State DT doesn't remember who that coach was. Alexander, though, will have an opportunity to talk to the Longhorn coaches face-to-face and make an impression on the practice field in early June if he attends Texas Camp as planned. Austin is his only planned summer stop so far and he doesn't yet know what other camps he'll attend.

Alexander currently claims eleven offers. "I have been offered by Virginia Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida State, Notre Dame, Maryland, Duke, Auburn, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech." He doesn't have a leader nor does he know where his official visits will be at this point.

The big-time DT has already been very busy as he had made plenty of unofficial visits. "I have made unofficial visits to Georgia Tech, Duke, North Carolina, Clemson, and South Carolina," he said. "All of the trips were fantastic. I loved Duke and their staff showed a lot of enthusiasm in me. North Carolina is an up and coming program and they have great facilities. I'd love to be a part of that. Georgia Tech is a great school to get an education and play football at the highest level. I enjoyed South Carolina a lot and I got a long real well with (Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line) Coach Nix. Clemson is a great school as well and I love the stability with Tommy Bowden getting a contract extension. The school is only about ten minutes from my house and I can go see them practice anytime. Their coaches have already been to see our spring practice."

Last season, Alexander had 77 tackles, 7 sacks, 2 blocked kicks, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. He and his teammates had a great season as they finished 11-2 and lost in the second round in the 3A State Playoffs to three-time defending champion, Byrnes HS. He carries a 3.0 GPA and will receive his SAT scores soon.
