Brian Ellis: Physical Specimen Talks To IT

WACO, Texas -- South Grand Prairie junior defensive end Brian Ellis talks about his commitment to Texas, his summer plans and his future in Austin during an exclusive interview with Inside Texas on Sunday at the combine at Baylor University.

Inside Texas: Congratulations on committing to Texas last month. What prompted your decision?

Ellis: It’s the school I’ve been wanting to go to for a while. I’ve wanted to go there since middle school.

Inside Texas: What schools did you choose Texas over?

Ellis: At the time, Oklahoma State. Texas offered me and I committed. After that, OU offered. Nobody else has offered.

Inside Texas: How solid is your commitment to Texas?

Ellis: Pretty solid.

Inside Texas: Just pretty solid?

Ellis: Yeah.

Inside Texas: Are you going to take any visits to other schools this fall?

Ellis: Yeah, but I’m not sure where yet.

Inside Texas: Who are you comparable to as a football player?

Ellis: I don’t know. I don’t watch football. It’s boring to watch. It’s fun to play.

Inside Texas: When is the last time you talked to the Texas coaching staff?

Ellis: Thursday (May 19).

Inside Texas: Which Texas coach do you usually talk to?

Ellis: Coach Chambers.

Inside Texas: What do the two of you talk about?

Ellis: We just say hi and talk about how we’re doing.

Inside Texas: What is your height and weight?

Ellis: I’m 6-foot-5, but they said today that I was 6-foot-4 and 1/2 inches. I weigh 245 pounds.

Inside Texas: What are your plans for this summer?

Ellis: Summer school, so I can graduate early next year.

Inside Texas: Will you be enrolling at Texas in January?

Ellis: No, I’m not graduating that early. I’m graduating in February. I just don’t have enough credits to graduate in January.

Inside Texas: So what will you do once you graduate early?

Ellis: I can’t enroll at Texas. I guess I’ll be off.

Inside Texas: How do you see yourself fitting in at Texas?

Ellis: I don’t know yet.

Inside Texas: Do you anticipate playing as a true freshman?

Ellis: Probably not. I think I’m too little.

Inside Texas: What are your strengths as a football player?

Ellis: My quickness. I can chase everything down.

Inside Texas: In what areas do you need improvement?

Ellis: Strength.

Inside Texas: Why strength?

Ellis: I’m not good with double teams.

Inside Texas: Do you anticipate being a full qualifier?

Ellis: Yeah. I’ll probably have a 3.1 or 3.2 grade point average. I’m good on the tests. That’s my strong point.

Inside Texas: Any other thoughts on your commitment to Texas?

Ellis: I’m excited about it.
