Recruiting: Texas In Bartley's Webb's Final Five

Springdale, Ark. HS OL Bartley Webb has racked up a total of 17 offers, but he's narrowed that list down to a top five and Texas is in it. He spoke to Inside Texas about his top five and why the Horns earned a spot on his short list.

Bartley Webb has received attention from powerhouse schools across the country. He and teammates Mitch Mustain and Damian Williams have offers from the Longhorns and are all three taking a hard look at the Texas program.

"I have narrowed down my list to a top five," Webb said. "My top five consists of Texas, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Florida and Michigan." Webb has made unofficial visits to all five schools and has attended a camp at all but Florida.

Bartley gave IT his thoughts on the early June camp he attended at UT. "The camp went great," he said. "I got to talk to (OL) Coach McWhorter a good bit and see his office and everything. I just got to know him better in general. I also spent some time with a few current Texas commits." Who are those commits? "I spent a good bit of time with Buck Burnette," he said. "Buck tried to recruit me to Texas a little bit. He told me that Texas is a great place to be and that everyone wants me here."

The Natural State star had a few opportunities to converse with Head Coach Mack Brown as well. "Coach Brown is a real classy guy. He told me that he wants me to be a Longhorn. He said I need to ask myself if I'm willing to leave the State of Arkansas. He said if not, we'll all understand."

Springdale stars Mustain, Williams and Webb attended camps at Texas and Arkansas together. Are they looking at staying together and deciding on one school? "Me, Mitch, and Damian have talked a little bit about going to the same school," Webb said. "Overall though, we're looking for the best place for us as individuals. If that happens to be the same school, so be it."

What is the timetable for Bartley's decision? "My decision will come when I feel 100% positive on the school I want to attend," he said. "It could be a week from now or it could be February."

Bartley's top five schools all have a few very important qualities. "All of the schools in my top five have good player-coach relationships," he said. "I look at how the players get along, how the coaches get along, everything. I also try to look at the city the school is in and ask myself, should I get hurt would I be happy to just live here and go to school? That answer is yes on all of my top five schools. They share all of those things in common."

Webb has set a few personal and team goals for the upcoming season. "Personally, I just want to get better," he said. "I just want to keep working hard and never settle. As far as team goals go, I want to go undefeated and win it all."

Last season, Webb had thirty-eight knockdown blocks and allowed just one sack. He was named to the All-Conference Team. Bartley currently carries a GPA of 3.2 and an ACT score of 19.
