Verbal confirmation of the commitment came via North Shore head coach David Aymond...
"Chykie committed to Texas," he said. "Off the top of my head, he had offers from UCLA, USC, A&M, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Arizona State, and of course, several more than that."
Also showing heavy interest were the Miami Hurricanes, a school the 6-1, 175-pound cornerback with 4.39 speed at one time had listed as his leader, but the 'Canes had not offered the Greater Houston standout as of yet, according to Aymond.
Asked if he'd give us his expertise on the ability and skills the HS cornerback might bring to UT in the coming years, Aymond did just that for Scout.com, and we have that below.
Scouting Report: "He's a cornerback with good height, good size, and excellent leaping ability."
Pass/Run: He's excellent in coverage, excellent in man, and can come off the receiver and play the run very well, and with aggressiveness.
"Chykie Brown is the Real Deal," said Coach McKinney, former North Shore assistant coach and current head coach at Houston Yates. And, "Real Deal" is a term we use only on the kind of prospects ranking at the Top of everybody's wish list regarding Greater Houston Area Blue Chips (like DajLeon Farr and Reginald Youngblood of last year, two prospects we felt that term applied to).
Quick Note: Brown, who is difficult to catch both on and off-the-field, is scheduled to meet with Scout.com face-to-face later this week. Our appointment has already been set for Thursday of this week, which will allow us to size up the corner, not to mention a few other North Shore prospects, and to grab photos...
