Recruits at the Spring Game

As has become the custom, the Horns not only attracted a huge crowd of Orangebloods to the Spring Game (officially 34,500) but a large group of potential future Longhorns as well. Tens of junior high school football prospects, including at least two of the state's top 10 players, plus almost every member of the recently signed '02 class, attended the Saturday afternoon event at DKR.

IT spotted the state's top DB, Lewisville's Tony Cade, 6-2, 185, 4.4, Lewisville, as well as one of the top DLs, Fort Bend Dulles DE Tim Washington, 6-3, 240, 4.7. Cade is ranked No. 3 and Washington No. 8 on Heartland Recruiting's early Texas Top 120 list.

Other members of the Texas Top 120 in attendance included Hewitt Midway DE Marcus Foreman, 6-3, 215, 4.7 (No. 36), Duncanville DB Erick Jackson, 6-0, 180, 4.5 (No. 78) and Hillsboro RB Richuel Massey, 5-9, 205, 4.5 (No. 79).

Other high schoolers who made the trip to Austin included Pearland DB Johnny White, 6-1, 180, 4.5, Arlington LB Nick Moore, 6-1, 215, 4.7, Clear Creek DL Bruce Davis, 6-3, 240, 4.7 and Waco Midway DL Marcus Foreman, 6-3, 230, 4.7.

Eventual UT signees David Thomas, Chase Pittman and Kasey Studdard attended last year's Spring Game, and several of the Horns' '01 signees attended the '00 Spring Game, including Stevie Lee and Phillip Geiggar, so it's a good bet that Texas will end up inking some of the prospects at the stadium Saturday.

[Editor's note: More on the prospects at the game in a future report.]
