Texas LDT Rodrique Wright finished a runner-up to Ohio State LB A.J. Hawk in the 36th Lombardi Award presentation Wednesday, honoring the nation's top lineman.

The winner was announced at the Hilton of the Americas in Houston. The ceremony marked the third time in four years that Texas had a Lombardi finalist, with WLB Derrick Johnson in 2004 and DE Cory Redding in 2002. The program has had two winners, Tony Degrate in 1984 and Kenneth Sims in 1981.

"He's a great guy and a great teammate," DE Tim Crowder said of Wright. "Rod is a guy that's always trying to get better. The one thing I'll always remember Rod for is that he's always pushing the rest of us to try to learn."

Wright's best game of the season, statistically, came at Baylor where he tallied seven tackles, two TFL, one sack and two pressures. For his career, Wright has 227 tackles, including 41.5 TFL, 17.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in 49 games (44 starts).
