Heisman committee not reacting to Bush's problems

A handful of enterprising Texas fans sent e-mails Monday to the folks who hand out the Heisman Trophy, wondering whether the committee might re-award the most coveted trophy in college football now that winner Reggie Bush could be in trouble with the NCAA. Obviously, they wanted Longhorn quarterback Vince Young, who finished a distant second to Bush in the balloting, to receive the trophy. Rob Whalen, director of the Heisman Trust, said the committee will wait to see how the facts play out before even beginning to think whether the trophy should go to someone other than Bush, the former star of Southern California. After dominating the first 13 innings of their series against Nebraska, the Texas Longhorns floundered and dropped out of first place in the Big 12 after a 6-0 shutout loss Sunday. With three conference series left — starting with Friday's home game against Texas A&M — the Longhorns, who slipped just two spots to No. 7 in Baseball America's weekly poll despite going 1-3 last week, will try to regain some needed swagger tonight against UT-Pan American.
