Cotton Bowl set for spot on ballot

The Cotton Bowl's future appears headed into the hands of Dallas voters. Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm will include $30 million in Cotton Bowl improvements within her 2006 bond program proposal, according to a document circulated among Park and Recreation Board members Thursday. Full story

Softball: A&M rocks Osterman while eliminating Texas from Big 12 tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY — The shock of their upset loss to Oklahoma State on Wednesday night in the Big 12 softball tournament was nothing compared to what happened to the Texas Longhorns on Thursday afternoon. Cat Osterman, the three-time MVP of this tournament, pitched as though she was indeed human, the Longhorns' hitting remained dormant for the second straight game, and Texas walked out of ASA Hall of Fame Stadium after setting a record for futility. Track: Texas doesn't have usual ace up sleeve in track

For years, the ace up Bev Kearney's sleeve has been her 1,600-meter relay team. When team titles at major collegiate track meets have been decided by the outcome of the final event, the 1,600 relay, Kearney's University of Texas women often trumped everyone. Quartets paced by anchor stars such as Suziann Reid and Sanya Richards usually made the difference in the six NCAA team crowns (three indoor, three outdoor) the Longhorns have won since Kearney's arrival in 1993. Softball: Tourney doesn't play favorites
