Several news outlets, including the Associated Press and the Austin American-Statesman, reported Sunday afternoon that UT junior-to-be running back Ramonce Taylor was arrested early Sunday morning in Bell County after sheriff's deputies said they found about five pounds of marijuana in a backpack in his car.
Taylor, who was "excused" by Mack Brown early in spring practice to focus on his academics and who has not participated in team functions since, faces a second-degree felony for possession of marijuana over five pounds, according to the Associated Press, a crime punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Brown released the following statement Sunday afternoon:
"Ramonce was excused from the team prior to the spring semester to focus on his academics and has not participated in any team functions since that time. We are aware of this recent situation and will follow it as the legal system runs its course. At this time, we will not consider reinstating him to the team."
