Playing time outlook: Quarterback

Over the next few weeks, IT will take a position-by-position capsule look at the probable fall playing time rotation as well as a glimpse at possible freshman contributors for the Horns. Today's installment: quarterback.

Quarterback rotation pattern: Chris Simms will start and take the vast majority of the meaningful game snaps but Mack Brown said that the coaches intend to give Chance Mock some first half snaps in the fall. There will be no quarterback rotation like in '00, but Mock should get at least some game-on-the-line action in early season games. He will also take over for Simms in the fourth quarter of blowouts. Matt Nordgren will also get a very late series or two in blowouts. True freshman PT? Doubtful. Vincent Young proved to be an amazing high school talent, but barring both a fantastic ability to pick up the Horns' intricate offense and injuries to either Simms or Mock or both, Young probably won't strip the 'shirt.
