Horns Down Tech In Tourney Opener
Inside Texas
Texas Tech started off last year's Big 12 Tournament by upsetting the No. 1 seed. The Red Raiders would have no such luck today. Texas shut out the Raiders, 4-0, to begin conference tournament play with a 'W' and move within one win of the 40-win plateau. Texas (39-18) got three of its four runs in the bottom of the third and then shut Texas Tech (31-24-1) down the rest of the way for the shutout victory. Longhorn starter Kenn Kasparek (4-2) earned the win, giving up five hits and no runs in his six innings of work. Randy Boone and Austin Wood sealed the shutout with three innings of hitless relief. The three Texas pitchers combined for four three-up three-down innings. Full story

Softball: Longhorns add speed to game
Austin American-Statesman
Though the Texas Longhorns have added a little bash to their lineup this year, it's their dash that may serve them best in their quest for their first national championship. The No. 3 Longhorns, who face No. 14 Washington in a best-of-three super regional Friday and Saturday in Austin, have raised their batting average 20 points over last year, scoring one more run per game. Often overlooked in the offensive performance, though, is Texas' sudden and dramatic surge in speed. Full story
