UT-Arlington stood a slim chance of getting picked for the NCAA postseason since the Mavericks entered the Southland Conference baseball tournament with a 25-33 record. Ten straight wins to start the season gave way to struggles that left the Mavericks envious of teams that were actually on the NCAA tournament bubble. UT-Arlington (29-34) not only received an automatic berth in the field of 64 after winning the Southland Conference tourney, but the Mavericks also were dispatched to the site of earlier success — Austin. Softball: No one-woman show for Longhorns

Everyone here knows that Cat Osterman can pitch. Now, what they're beginning to suspect is that her usually overlooked teammates can finally hit. Looking every bit like college softball's best player, Osterman pitched Texas to a 2-0 victory over Arizona State in the first round of the 25th edition of the Women's College World Series. Osterman allowed only one hit on Thursday while striking out 18, a World Series record for a seven-inning game. Full story
