University of Texas freshman outfielder Kyle Russell was selected to the Baseball America's 2006 All-Freshman team on Friday. The 30-player squad is broken into first and second teams, each of 15. Russell earned second team honors.
, who played in 55 games for the Longhorns in 2006, earned first-team Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball earlier in the month and now has another All-American honor on his mantle. This past season, Russell batted .276 overall, ranked second on the club in home runs (10), and third in both RBI (42) and stolen bases (8).
With the injury to Jordan Danks early in the year, Russell became the Longhorns' starting right fielder and quickly became a key contributor, hitting with a .546 slugging percentage to go along and a .365 on-base.
Russell was also the only student-athlete from the Big 12 Conference included on either of Baseball America's freshman squads.
