Johnson is interested in any school that is showing interest in him, but it is clear that he would prefer to play college football in his home state of Texas. Two Texas schools stand out as clear favorites.
"I am interested in any of the Texas schools, but Texas and Texas Tech are probably my two favorites right now," Johnson said. "I am from Austin and grew up as a big Texas fan. I can remember passing by Longhorn Stadium as a kid. Texas Tech is special because my Dad started at linebacker for Tech when he was in college."
At the same time, Johnson doesn't consider going to school close to home as one of his determining factors in picking a college.
"Being close to home isn't really important as long it is a good academic school. I am looking for a good medical program," Johnson said.
The 6-foot-2, 220 pound Johnson runs the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds and was named All-district Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore recording over 90 tackles and 4 sacks. Johnson plays both defensive end and linebacker in high school. What position are college coaches recruiting him to play at the next level?
"I am being recruited at linebacker," Johnson said. "I feel like I pursue the ball very well and try to be where the ball is at all times."
Johnson attended a handful of camps over the summer including the Houston Combine and the UTEP, LSU, and A&M camps. He also plans on watching the Houston and UTEP game in the fall. Johnson also wants to check out at least one A&M, Texas, and LSU game.
