Texas QBs: Farther Along Than You Might Think
Texas worked-out in full pads Friday for the first time this season, but there is one thing Offensive Coordinator Greg Davis already knows: Colt McCoy and Jevan Snead have made more progress than any freshman QBs he has ever coached.

Can Henry Come Out and Play?
Is sophomore RB Henry Melton an every-down back? Or, does he still have something to prove to Longhorn coaches?

The Inside Texas Inside Scoop
Was VY actually close to moving to wide receiver? We talk to a former Texas QB who had a hand in the decision. How have the Texas players looked in the first week of practice? What defensive players may be getting a look on goal-line offense? In recruiting, what's the latest with St. Mark's DE Sam Acho? All that and more in this week's edition of the Inside Texas Inside Scoop!

Talented secondary hasn't translated to more Longhorns interceptions.
Austin American-Statesman
Consider the collective talent résumé of last year's Texas secondary: Safety Michael Huff won the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back. He was the seventh pick of the NFL draft. Cornerback Cedric Griffin, who like Huff was a four-year starter, was a second-round pick by Minnesota. Safety Michael Griffin was the leading tackler on last year's team and is an early favorite for this year's Thorpe. Juniors Aaron Ross and Tarell Brown split time at the other corner. There wasn't an underclassmen in the savvy bunch. Now consider this odd stat, one that appears to misrepresent the talented group. They had only 11 interceptions, tied for only 70th best in the country. Only Kansas State and Oklahoma State picked off fewer passes in the Big 12 Conference.

Longhorn ready for taste of Big 12
Austin American-Statesman
Playing right tackle in the Big 12 is probably more difficult than seeing who can pile the most mayonnaise on a double-decker sandwich. Redshirt freshman Adam Ulatoski spent last summer living with tight end Neale Tweedie and left guard Kasey Studdard, the resident wild man of the Texas offensive line. With 315-pound center Lyle Sendlein coming over for snacks all the time, food was never far from view. Eating contests aside, the 6-foot-8-inch, 305-pound Ulatoski is now challenged with gorging himself on the knowledge it will take to win the starting right tackle spot.

Several position battles under way at UT
Dallas Morning News

J.B. Shugarts: Top Texas Prospect for 2008?
Klein offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts is without question one of the most dominant high school offensive linemen in the nation. In fact, he is potentially the top prospect in the entire state of Texas for the class of 2008. Almost every elite program would love to get their hands on Shugarts and several schools have already offered verbal scholarships.

Ex-Longhorns linebacker Johnson works to prove worth
San Antonio Express-News
When Dante Hall heard the Kansas City Chiefs had drafted Derrick Johnson last year, his reaction was, "Oh, boy." Hall, who played at Texas A&M, figured he would have to listen to a load of smack from the former Texas linebacker. Hall figured wrong, because Johnson said there's nothing to talk about. "There's no need to even give Dante a hard time," Johnson said, grinning. "We never lose to the Aggies anymore."
