Horns hoping tight ends give them best of both worlds

exas has two distinct personalities vying for the starting job at tight end. One is a fifth-year senior with no ego — he's played offense, defense and special teams while in Austin. Even his dreams of individual glory have a non-glorious theme to them — throwing the perfect block. The other tight end option is a raw, moldable, "yes-sir, no-sir," 19-year-old who naively isn't aware how good he can be in the passing game. Somehow, the Longhorns need to mesh Neale Tweedie, the former offensive tackle, and Jermichael Finley, who's built like a power forward, into the proper replacement for David Thomas.

Coach Mack Brown is not opposed to playing five or six defensive ends this season. The three already in the rotation are seniors Brian Robison and Tim Crowder as well as sophomore Brian Orakpo. Those challenging to expand the rotation who have impressed coaches are sophomores Chris Brown (6-3, 220) and Aaron Lewis (6-4, 270) and freshmen Eddie Jones (6-3, 245), Brian Ellis (6-5, 270) and Lamarr Houston (6-2, 270).
