Killeen Shoemaker DB Making Noise

Killeen Shoemaker is home to one of the most versatile defensive backs in Texas for the class of 2008. Lyvell Marvett has excellent speed and can play anywhere throughout the secondary. Assistant Coach Showers talked about Marvett's skills and what he brings to the team.

"He is what the offense would call a utility guy," Showers said. "He is a very versatile guy. He plays outside safety for us which frees him up to run to the ball. He can also play free safety or corner. He has good enough speed to play man-to-man and he is a big hitter."

The 5-foot-10, 170 pound Lyvell Marvett runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He was gaining interest on the recruiting landscape until he injured his pancreas midway through his sophomore season. Coach Showers talked about how Marvett's injury affected the defense towards the end of the year.

"Losing him down the stretch really hurt the defense," Showers said. "He bruised his pancreas towards the latter part of the season. When he got hurt, his recruitment slowed down, but it should pick back up this year. "

Coach Showers thinks that Marvett is definitely Division I material. If he continues to play like he did at the beginning of last year, Marvett should definitely begin to hear from some of the elite programs in and around Texas.

"I think he is a D-I player because of his size and versatility," Showers said. "We just have to get him on the field and he has to make some plays."
