'Situational Scrimmage' Tests QBs
Texas' final scrimmage of the pre-season, held Wednesday evening at DKR, was a situational scrimmage in which coaches attempted to inundate both freshman QBs with nearly every game-day scenario they could possibly face during the first month of the season. The session will help coaches reach a final decision on this year's depth chart.

Brown: We Want Kindle to Play

As usual, Texas football coach Mack Brown signed a top-five recruiting class in February. Five of the 25 recruits were Parade All-Americans and four enrolled for the spring semester. All but one of the youngsters were on campus this summer, going to class and working out with the upperclassmen. Yet when the defending national champions start the season in 10 days, don't count on many of the former prep superstars seeing action. Barring a catastrophic injury bug, the freshmen will redshirt, as former star quarterback Vince Young did in 2002, acclimate to college life and try again to see the field in 2007.
