The hard-hitting Kelson has played in 22 career games, including three starts. (The last time we saw Kelson on game-day was when he was holding his own against 2005 Heisman winner Reggie Bush in the Rose Bowl.) He registered 36 tackles, four PBU, an INT, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 2005.
Meanwhile, Longhorn prize recruit SLB Sergio Kindle will not play Saturday, according to Longhorn officials. The consensus prep All-American suffered a high ankle sprain the second day of August camp. Kindle has backed starting SLB Robert Killebrew since spring drills. Junior Scott Derry is now listed as Killebrew's primary backup. Derry missed the entire 2005 season due to a broken ankle but played in all 12 games in 2004 as the backup MLB.
RS-sophomore Rashad Bobino is listed as the starting MLB after starting all 13 games last season at WLB. Bobino earned First-Team Freshman All-American honors after totaling 53 tackles, seven TFL, two sacks, a PBU, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 2005. True freshman Jared Norton, a two-time all-state selection from Rowlett, is listed as Bobino's primary backup.
Texas' season-opener is set for 11 a.m. (Central) in a Fox Sports Southwest telecast.
