Earlier this offseason, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy took offensive linemen Kasey Studdard and Lyle Sendlein on a hunting trip to a family friend's ranch near Marble Falls. McCoy, according to eyewitnesses, didn't bag much of anything. "He kind of just drove us around," Sendlein said, "and let Kasey and I do the shooting." And that, in a nutshell, is all the No. 3 Longhorns will ask of McCoy on the field as well.

With the battle for the starting quarterback job heating up in preseason workouts, Texas right tackle Justin Blalock was waiting for front-runner Colt McCoy to wilt under the pressure. He could hear the shakiness in McCoy's voice. He could see the overwhelming look in his eyes, the burden of leading the defending national champions, a team that hasn't lost in nearly two years and replacing arguably the greatest player in school history. "I was waiting for a meltdown," Blalock said. "It never came."

Soccer upsets No. 3 Penn State, 2-1
The University of Texas women's soccer team made its 2006 home debut a memorable one, as the Longhorns used single goals by senior Amy Burlingham (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and junior Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) to upset No. 3 ranked Penn State, 2-1, Friday evening at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
