Cypress Falls: Juniors to Watch

Cypress Falls High School has plenty of senior leadership on its roster, but two juniors are making a lot noise as well. Safety Xavier Witchett and running back Shane Turner are already hearing from several prestigious football programs.

Head Coach David Raffield talked about what makes his junior play-makers so special on the football field.

"Xavier just has a knack for the football," Raffield said. "He plays a little receiver for us as well and is a return specialist. This is his first year at Cypress Falls so we haven't really been able to get a good look at him yet."

The 6-1, 175 pound Xavier Witchett runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. He has the size to play Division I football and with a solid junior season, he should guarantee himself several scholarship offers.

Turner has incredible speed and plays both running back and wide receiver in the Eagles offense. The 5-foot-10, 170 pound Shane Turner runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds.

"He's really fast," Raffield said. "Shane only knows one speed: full tilt. He is very explosive out of the backfield and also plays a little slot receiver for us."

Both of these kids are receiving letters from big time programs. Coach Raffield talked about their early recruitment and named a couple of the schools they have heard from.

"They have been getting mail from a variety of Division I schools from Notre Dame to A&M to Kansas," Raffield said.

Cypress Falls has been on the wrong end of two heart-breaking losses early in the 2006 season. They hope to get things rolling this Friday against Katy Taylor High School. Their junior prospects should play a major role in the future success at Cy Falls High School.
