Big 12 going through growing pains
Dallas Morning News
Last week was brutal for the Big 12. The league went 5-7 in nonconference games, including 0-4 against the Pac-10 – if you include Oklahoma's loss at Oregon. (OU president David Boren doesn't want you to count it. As of Wednesday, Boren, a former governor, was still politicking. He and coach Bob Stoops were talking about things like dropping a game at Washington in 2008 if the Pac-10 didn't change its policy of allowing only Pac-10 officials to work home, nonconference games.) Perhaps the biggest reason the Big 12 is down this year is the youth at quarterback. All of the top teams in the Big 12 South – Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Texas A&M – are playing QBs with less than a season of starting experience.

The road to recovery

The word "battle" is often associated with sports -- so-and-so battles so-and-so in a big showdown this week. University of Texas senior outfielder Carson Kainer is winning a real "battle" -- a fight for sustaining life.
