Too Many Free Passes?

And lo, it came to pass that Texas had a hard time defending one. The Horns boast college football's No. 2 rush defense (24.0 ypg) but are yielding 209.5 ypg through the air. A unit that placed a premium on stopping the run this season is now determined to reinforce its No-Fly-Zone as non-conference play concludes this Saturday.

The Sam Houston State Bearkats watched the movie "Unleashed" two weeks ago, a film about a street fighter who discovers music as an alternative to violence. The, ahem, excitement around the UT program this week has been palpable. It's a game so noteworthy that Fox Sports Net is actually going to charge people to watch it on television. Can't just give away this clash of titans for free.

Bearkats are dreaming the impossible dream
Houston Chronicle
Sam Houston State tight end Blake Martin was on a deer hunting trip to Mexico in January when he managed to pick up a television channel showing Texas and Southern California playing in the national championship game. "I couldn't tell what they were saying, but I could tell who won," Martin said of the Longhorns' 41-38 victory. He's about to get another look at the winner — and he won't need a translator this time.

The Longhorns' match-up with Sam Houston State on Saturday probably wasn't the first date circled when you saw Texas' schedule or even when you last glanced at it. But match-ups like these, which pit Division I-A teams against Division I-AA opponents, are happening more than one imagines.
