Katy Taylor Juniors Drawing Interest

Katy Taylor High School is home to two talented football players. They have one of the biggest offensive linemen in the nation and a dominating defensive lineman. Both kids are already hearing from Division I schools. Head Coach Bill Lane weighed in on both of his junior prospects.

Michael Bergman is a huge offensive lineman. The 6-foot-6, 345 pound Bergman is about to see his first action with the varsity club.

"Michael Bergman is not there yet, but he is getting there," Lane said. "He is getting a lot of attention. He has good feet for a big man. He is just about to get into a starting position. We projected him to start at the beginning of the season, but he is just now coming around. The main thing with him is that he is just massive."

The 6-foot-0, 241 pound Ryan Evans has been making an impact at Taylor the past two seasons. He played well enough as a sophomore to earn all-district honors.

"He is a two year starter on the varsity and was second team all-district as a sophomore," Lane said. "He does a great job for us on the defensive line. He is our nose tackle."

Several schools are already interested in both of these kids, but an ACC school has shown the most interest.

"Georgia Tech is showing both of them interest through the mail. They are the school that stands out right now," Lane said. "U of H called about Michael the other day."

Bergman and Evans definitely have the size to play Division I football. Evan's recruitment should heat up if he continues to perform like he did as a sophomore. Once Bergman gets playing time with the starting unit, he should start to draw more interest as well.
