For all the girls who are thinking about e-mailing me for Ryan Bailey's cell phone number, don't bother. I don't have it. The former Anderson High kicker was the story of the weekend. He may not be as high profile as former non-scholarship players Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson, but his debut was as impressive as they come, especially for a walk-on. The more immediate concern for Texas coach Mack Brown is who will be able to walk in to Lubbock's Jones Stadium on Saturday night without the aid of crutches.

Big 12 lacks stature, but provides plenty of thrills
San Antonio Express-News
The national perception of the Big 12 probably never has been lower. Non-conference struggles branded the conference an afterthought even before the release of the first Bowl Championship Series standings. The lack of respect abated a little Sunday when Texas jumped to seventh in the BCS standings, sliding past Louisville and Notre Dame. The Longhorns remain behind one-loss teams Auburn and Florida. But the conference still faces an image problem.

ConVinced? Young sure is
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
As the fourth-quarter clock counted down with Nebraska in control of the scoreboard, the Cornhuskers had Texas' late-game magician right where they wanted him: in street clothes on the Longhorns' sideline. Vince Young, catalyst of so many comebacks while posting a 30-2 record as Texas' starting quarterback, could not offer anything but moral support Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. But his successor, redshirt freshman Colt McCoy, flashed some of the same crunch-time moxie that made the Tennessee Titans' rookie a Longhorns legend.
