'13' is Lucky Number for Texas Receivers
Certain NFL receivers might do well to take a cue from Texas' pass-catchers. Arguably, WR is the game's most ego-driven position. Yet, QB Colt McCoy is sharing the wealth, completing 170 passes to 13 receivers this season. And eight Longhorns boast double-digit receptions.

Post-Season Award Nominations Aplenty
Three Longhorn players, OT Justin Blalock, CB Aaron Ross and QB Colt McCoy, have been named semi-finalists for post-season awards.

In the violent world of college football, players are urged to get bigger. To get stronger. To get faster. To do Pilates.

K-State DE says Wildcats ready for Texas
Dallas Morning News
Kansas State sophomore defensive end Ian Campbell, who has 10 1/2 sacks this season, said the Wildcats (6-4, 3-3 Big 12) will be ready for No. 4 Texas (9-1, 6-0) Saturday night in Manhattan, Kan.

Longhorns turn to yoga for flexibility
Dallas Morning News
The UT football team is into yoga, led by 300-pound defensive tackle Frank Okam of Lake Highlands, who can do the splits (back to front, not side to side). Okam is one of about 20 Longhorns who take part in yoga classes offered to players.

Texas wide receivers run deep
San Antonio Express-News
One night late last month, Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis boarded the team bus after a victory at Texas Tech intent on doling out some congratulations. Talking with receivers coach Bobby Kennedy, Davis mentioned what a great route Billy Pittman had run on a 16-yard touchdown catch in the first half. The problem? Pittman didn't run the route or catch the pass. Nate Jones did.

Longhorns' McCoy on O'Brien list
San Antonio Express-News
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy is one of 18 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien award, given annually to the nation's top quarterback.

For UT, it's better to receive
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Texas lined up against Oklahoma State last week with the end zone in sight. Quarterback Colt McCoy tossed a pass down the sideline as the receiver found space between the cornerback and safety. The receiver -- wasn't that Billy Pittman? -- pulled in the pass and found the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. Except the jersey number didn't match Pittman's. It was Nate Jones.

Several Texas players semifinalists for national awards
Daily Texan
Aaron Ross lives by his mother's words. "The last shall be first, and the first shall be last," is ringing especially true with his inclusion on the Jim Thorpe Award's list of semifinalists. When the preseason watch list came out, 33 defensive backs were considered prime candidates to be the best. Ross's name was nowhere to be seen. Now he's a leading candidate to take the award that former Texas safety, and current Oakland Raider, Michael Huff won last year.

K-State sizes up Longhorns
Wichita Eagle
The last time a top 10 team visited Snyder Family Stadium, Kansas State coach Ron Prince opened up his playbook in an attempt to run alongside one of the nation's best offenses. Afterward, he said he thought it gave K-State the best chance to win. Louisville scoffed at Prince's tricks, as the Cardinals yielded six points to the Wildcats while scoring 24 with backups starting at quarterback and running back. That was September, though, and the on-field landscape has changed plenty in Manhattan. As K-State plays host to No. 4 Texas on Saturday, the Wildcats may not feel the need for all the trickiness in its upset attempt.

Tout your own 'Horn, Mack, and lobby for Colt
The program that gave Bevo its own air-conditioned trailer apparently won't be pushing its record-breaking quarterback for the Heisman. You wonder what Texas' motivation -- or lack thereof -- is in not promoting Colt McCoy for the sport's most prestigious award. Forget McCoy's actual chances of winning, coach Mack Brown basically pooh-poohed his redshirt freshman's eligibility for the award over the weekend.

Thursday's tip-off marks the earliest start for Texas basketball in Rick Barnes' nine-year tenure. But there's no time to waste when you've got three freshmen and two sophomores in a lineup that returns no starters.

Why Kevin Durant came to Austin
Austin American-Statesman
The next time they redecorate the Erwin Center, University of Texas officials might want to display prominently a portrait of David Stern. The NBA commissioner ensured that Kevin Durant is a Longhorn this season by stepping in to take a charge, blocking the lane that once allowed basketball players to proceed from high school to the NBA.

4 questions for Texas
Austin American-Statesman

Texas' Abrams adjusting to a new role
San Antonio Express-News
Texas guard A.J. Abrams changed uniform numbers since the end of last season, trading in the No. 5 he donned as a freshman for the No. 3 worn by his idol, Allen Iverson. After an offseason extreme makeover that saw five starters leave and seven freshmen arrive, Abrams' jersey swap is about the subtlest modification going at UT these days.

Longhorns are young but talented
Houston Chronicle
Texas coach Rick Barnes didn't take it personally when his whole starting lineup left this offseason. Two players graduated, and three others, including Big 12 Player of the Year P.J. Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge, left school early for the NBA. That left the Longhorns, who came within one victory of reaching the Final Four last season, with sophomore guard A.J. Abrams (6.4 points) and forward/center Connor Atchley (2.3 points) as the team's most experienced returnees. The No. 21 Longhorns begin the season tonight against Alcorn State with a lineup that will feature at least three freshmen and may be the youngest in the nation.
