The 6-foot-0, 175-pound Powell has been a mainstay in the Patriot secondary the last two seasons. As a junior, he recorded 92 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and eight pass deflections. He earned first team all-district at corner for his performance as a sophomore.
Powell ran down a list of his top schools. His top five included Texas, Florida, Miami, Iowa and Oklahoma.
Powell was on campus at Texas A&M earlier this year for an unofficial visit. He talked about his experience in College Station.
"I went on an unofficial visit to Texas A&M, and they showed me around campus," Powell said. "It went good. I like it out there. I like how they have so much spirit in their school.
Powell took another visit last week to check out one of the biggest rivalries within the state of Texas, watching the Longhorns take on the Aggies in Austin.
Other than on the football field, Powell also excels in the classroom. He currently has a 3.6 GPA and ranks 14th in a class of 517 students.
