Alamo Bowl on Way to Attendance Record
Texas' two-game skid and post-season match-up against an Iowa team (6-6) that lost five of its last six has not dampened red-hot tickets for the 15th annual Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

The buzz changes by the hour, with fans chatting on the Internet or calling in radio shows, offering candidates as to who might replace Gene Chizik, the former Texas defensive co-coordinator. But it's just that: conjecture. Longhorns coach Mack Brown said Monday he will not contact, interview or hire anyone until after Texas plays Iowa in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30.

Lokey, Muckelroy will miss Alamo Bowl with injuries

Remember the . . . Alamo Bowl? Better yet, remember the Texas A&M game? Has the memory of the Kansas State meltdown been discarded yet? Those should be the battle cries for your 9-3 Texas Longhorns as they prepare for their appearance in the . . . really, you're not kidding? . . . the Alamo Bowl. That wasn't exactly the plan when they were ranked No. 2 in the second week of the season. Write it down now: There will be no more relevant factor in the Dec. 30 game in San Antonio than the mindset of Mack Brown's team after losing its last two games. And no one can peek into their frame of mind this far out

Alamo fired up about UT
San Antonio Express-News
Alamo Bowl executive director Derrick Fox reacted like a child on Christmas morning after learning that Texas would be coming to his game for the first time. The Alamo Bowl has never had access to the Longhorns in its previous 13-game history. The reason has been because UT has either been too good or too bad to play in the local bowl game.

Low rung gives Texas big step up
San Antonio Express-News
Let's get one thing straight. Texas is not the Alamo Bowl dream team. The Aggies are. Their fans will show up no matter what is going on, and they'll also reserve more hotel rooms because of the commute. Another thing: Texas needs the Alamo Bowl this year as much as the Alamo Bowl needs Texas. The farthest Longhorns fans were going to travel to see this team is about 75 miles. Eighty would have been a push, especially if gas prices went up another penny. Now, Texas will draw a crowd that won't feel put out, as well as a 6-6 team. The Longhorns will end their season with their fans next to them, with 10 wins, and they will think life isn't so awful after all. Would the Cotton or Holiday or Gator have supplied the same?

he Longhorns started the season with thoughts of Glendale and finished with a trip booked for San Antonio. How did this happen? Three losses is the easy answer, but in football, the real explanations are not always easy.
