Coaches Making Plans for Backup QB
Texas coach Mack Brown is making contingency plans this week for a backup quarterback if Colt McCoy has not fully recovered from a severe pinched nerve in time for Texas' December 30 date with Iowa in the Alamo Bowl.

Alamo Bowl officials said Tuesday they are nearing capacity in ticket sales for their Dec. 30 game between Texas and Iowa at the Alamodome.

Blalock's draft stock gains value

Days after the Texas Longhorns won the national championship, Justin Blalock told a crowd of 50,000 at Royal-Memorial Stadium he had good news and bad news. "The bad news is for defensive linemen in the Big 12," Blalock, a Plano resident, said at Texas' post-championship celebration, "I'll be returning for my senior year." Blalock, a four-year starter on the Longhorns' offensive line, said he decided to return for his senior year to his NFL draft value, graduate and win another title. The Longhorns won't defend their national title, but Blalock has a chance to pick up another piece of hardware tonight at the Rotary Lombardi Award ceremony at the Hilton Americas Hotel.

Just imagine what Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel would be thinking right now if his team were again facing Michigan in the BCS National Championship game. The Texas volleyball team knows that their Sweet 16 match against Wisconsin won't be as one-sided as the Longhorns' 3-0 victory at the start of the season.
