Gooch: Back from Banquet Weekend Visit

The Texas Longhorns arguably are bringing in the most talented group of offensive linemen in the nation next year. Three members of that group -- Tray Allen, Michael Huey and Jerrod Gooch -- were in Austin over the weekend for one of the biggest recruiting events of the year. Gooch talked about the trip to the University of Texas.

"It went good," Vidor offensive guard Jerrod Gooch said. "We just hung out with some of the players. They showed us around campus and everything."

"I met a bunch of them (current players). It wasn’t just two or three. I met a whole bunch of guys," Gooch added.

Gooch’s host throughout the visit was redshirt freshman offensive guard Charlie Tanner. Gooch enjoyed getting to know Tanner.

"Charlie Tanner was my host. I liked him. I enjoyed hanging out and everything," Gooch said.

Gooch’s favorite part of the trip was taking in the excitement of the annual UT Football Banquet.

"The best part was the banquet," Gooch said. "They gave all of the awards out to the players, the MVP’s and stuff like that."

Offensive Line Coach Mac McWhorter has an outstanding group of offensive lineman coming in next year. Gooch has already developed a good relationship with McWhorter and the other offensive linemen from his recruiting class.

"I talked to most of the coaches," Gooch said. "I talked to Coach McWhorter because he is the offensive line coach. They told me to stay in shape and everything."

"We’re pretty close. I keep in touch with most of them pretty regularly," Gooch said about his future teammates.

Gooch is a four-star prospect and is currently ranked the 19th best offensive guard in the nation. He does not plan on enrolling at the University of Texas until this summer after his high school graduation.

"I’m going to graduate when everyone else does. I’m not going to go early," Gooch said.
