Acho: Excited to be a Longhorn

Dallas St. Mark's defensive end Sam Acho was one of the biggest sleepers in the state of Texas this year. He was relatively unknown until his game film surfaced over the summer. The final commitment in the nation's top recruiting class was in Austin for an unofficial visit this weekend.

Sam Acho did not take an official visit like many of the other members of the Longhorn recruiting class. However, he did take part in UT's football banquet Friday night.

"It went well. I enjoyed it. I went down unofficially for the banquet Friday afternoon. I left early Saturday morning," Acho said. "I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed myself."

Acho got to hang out with a number of the current players on the Texas roster Friday night.

"I was just there for the banquet," Acho said. "One of the players I got to talk to was one of the defensive ends, Brian Orakpo. We just had a casual conversation."

Acho had some basic conversations with a couple of the members from the Texas coaching staff as well. He didn't stay on Saturday, but he plans on returning to Austin sometime next month to talk to the coaches about how they plan on using him next fall.

"I got to talk to my position coach. I talked to Coach Brown. Once again, it was just casual conversation, but I plan on going back down sometime in January where I can talk about all that stuff," Acho said.

It was originally reported that Acho would be an early enrollee for the spring semester, but this is not the case. He plans on enjoying the remainder of his senior year at St. Mark's.

"I'm planning on finishing my senior year in high school," Acho said. "Right now, I am playing basketball and in the spring I am going to do track. I throw the shot put and discus."

Acho is ranked as a four-star prospect and the number 21 defensive end in the country by He is very excited to be a Texas Longhorn.

"Most definitely; I am really excited," Acho said.
