Brantley Rumors: 'Lot ... that is just false'
InsideTexas.com
You'd think that once a recruit publicly announces his intentions, it's over. Not if you're the Gatorade National Player of the Year, Elite 11 MVP, and a U.S. Army All-American. Despite committing to the University of Texas, Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic quarterback John Brantley can't escape the speed rush of the rumor mill.

Andre Jones: Official visit a success
InsideTexas.com
One of the Texas Longhorns top priorities for the 2007 recruiting class was a big run stuffing defensive tackle. They got that back in the spring when they landed a commitment from five star Andre Jones of Andress in El Paso, Texas.

Bad news for the Society to Impeach Greg Davis
San Antonio Express-News
Over the past month or so, the Texas Longhorns have lost back-to-back games to close the regular season, lost a defensive coordinator to Iowa State and lost a backup quarterback to transfer. Unfortunately for a certain segment of oft-disgruntled Longhorns fans, they're not going to lose Greg Davis.

Akina auditions to lead UT's 'D'
San Antonio Express-News
Whenever Texas coach Mack Brown finally gets around to beginning the pesky search for a new defensive coordinator, it's a safe bet his first move won't be to consult with cornerback Aaron Ross. That's too bad, Ross says, because he could save Brown a lot of trouble. His short list of candidates to replace departed co-coordinator Gene Chizik consists of just one name. Duane Akina, UT's other co-coordinator.

Horns trying to survive tough early schedule
Austin American-Statesman
Louisiana State guard Garrett Temple's three-point shot bounced harmlessly off the rim at the end of overtime Sunday, and Rick Barnes finally could exhale. The Longhorns had a 76-75 victory against a highly ranked opponent — No. 9 at the time — and their coach could stop wondering if his non-conference schedule was too difficult for a team with seven freshmen, four of them starters.

Dallas Morning News
Stephenville coach Chad Morris said former Texas quarterback Jevan Snead might add UNT to his list of schools. Snead has visited TCU and Houston and is scheduled to meet with coaches at Mississippi today. Morris said UNT's decision to hire Southlake Carroll's Todd Dodge, who will install a spread offense, caught Snead's interest.

Snead, who decided to transfer after redshirt freshman Colt McCoy won the battle to replace Vince Young at quarterback, toured the Cougars' facilities with Briles.
