The Last Step
Defensive end Tim Crowder's production and performance took a leap this season, but the change was more psychological than physical. Crowder talked with Inside Texas about the mental block that slowed him down last season and what's given him that last step to the quarterback.

Delgado: Staying Close to Home?
Killeen Ellison quarterback Ivan Delgado may have the strongest arm inside the Lone Star State in the class of 2008. Two Big 12 schools have already started showing strong interest in the junior signal caller. Delgado would love nothing more than to play close to the state he grew up in.

Barnes Gets 400th Win
Texas beat Texas State on Saturday, 96-70, to give Texas head coach Rick Barnes his 400th career win. The Horns beat the Bobcats with points coming from some unexpected places.

Texas drops Texas State 96-70

One man's straitjacket is somebody else's freedom, at least that's how it sometimes works in basketball. Texas State did credible work on Saturday against the Longhorns' most prodigious offensive players, Kevin Durant and A.J. Abrams, on the perimeter. But that approach presented opportunities for D.J. Augustin and Justin Mason. Augustin, a freshman point guard, scored 24 points. Mason, another freshman, had 18, the most for him this season. And the Longhorns, without much from Durant and Abrams, defeated Texas State 96-70 in front of 6,292 fans at the Erwin Center for coach Rick Barnes' 400th career victory.

Atchley beginning to step up for Horns
Austin American-Statesman
Longhorn Connor Atchley says the bite marks on his left arm are of no significance, but one of his coaches is not so sure. During Texas' 76-75 win against Louisiana State on Sunday, the 6-foot-9-inch, 225-pound Atchley beat Glen "Big Baby" Davis to a rebound. Somehow, the 6-9, 290-pound Davis left three imprints on Atchley's arm.

Texas' Barnes also earns a milestone win
Associated Press
Texas started the season with Kevin Durant and A.J. Abrams as their best scoring threats. Yet when those two struggle and the Longhorns still win by 26, it's time opponents start rethinking just how they plan to defend against Texas' talented group of freshmen. D.J. Augustin scored 24 points and Justin Mason added 18 points Saturday as the Longhorns gave coach Rick Barnes career victory No. 400 with a 96-70 win over Texas State.

Tennessee proves Horns aren't elite right now
Austin American-Statesman
The Texas Longhorns had the intangible qualities. They played with intensity. They worked hard. They fought for 48 minutes. But the problem against No. 5 Tennessee on Sunday was the tangible qualities. The Lady Vols had them. Texas didn't. The Longhorns proved they've got a long way to go when it comes to competing with the elite programs as they followed up last week's blowout loss to Duke with a disappointing performance against Tennessee in a 67-46 laugher at the Erwin Center.
