Baseball: Texas Tops Big 12 Coaches' Poll

The Texas Longhorns, winners of the 2006 conference regular-season crown, were named the preseason favorites to win the 2007 Big 12 baseball title in a vote by the league's head coaches.

Texas recieved seven of nine possible first place votes, with Oklahoma State holding the other two.

The Longhorns finished first last season with a 19-7 record against conference opponents and a 41-21 overall mark and return 20 lettermen, including seven position starters.

The Big 12 baseball season begins Thursday, Feb. 1 with Kansas at Hawaii-Hilo. Conference play will begin on March 15. The Longhorns begin their season at the Dell Diamond on Friday, February 2, against San Diego. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
