Football recruiting:

Dan Buckner: Headed to Texas Jr. Day
Allen, Texas junior Dan Buckner is without a doubt the most sought after wide receiver in the Lone Star State. He has already racked up ten scholarship offers and is going to several junior days over the next month. Where is Buckner headed?

Kirkendoll makes it official
The one offer that Round Rock, Texas wide receiver James Kirkendoll wanted more than any other didn't come for about 11 months of the recruiting process. Then it came and now he is Texas' newest and possibly last commitment for the class of 2007.

UT's Barnes braces for Tech's Knight — again
Austin American-Statesman
Given a timeout from the basketball season, Rick Barnes might resist the temptations of Austin's hike and bike trail, his beach house in South Carolina or even the Cracker Barrel, some of his favorite destinations. Instead, you could find him in a Lubbock gym, eyes wide open, studying as Bob Knight coaches practice at Texas Tech.

Knight, Barnes are respectful rivals
Dallas Morning News
When No. 22 Texas takes the floor at Texas Tech tonight, the story lines will probably focus on how Tech coach Bob Knight is 2-10 against the Longhorns, Knight's worst record against any team in his Hall of Fame career.

Time to add D to Texas
San Antonio Express-News
So the Texas men's basketball team is 5-1 in the Big 12 and tied for the conference lead. High times for the Longhorns right? Not exactly. Those five Big 12 victories have come against teams in the bottom half of the league. The road only gets more rugged from here.

Horns want to keep Tech fans off court
San Antonio Express-News
Never one to be confused with Miss Manners, Texas Tech coach Bob Knight last week found himself in the unusual position of offering up a lesson in etiquette. After watching their team knock off then-No. 5 Kansas and then-No. 6 Texas A&M in back-to-back games, Red Raiders fans apparently became a little too enthused for Knight's tastes. The crowd twice stormed the court at United Spirit Arena, prompting an unlikely tutorial in decorum from their team's head coach.

Youthful Longhorns to take first test vs. Knight
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Texas teams coached by Rick Barnes have had remarkable success against Texas Tech since Bob Knight arrived as the Red Raiders' coach six seasons ago, winning 10 of 12 games. Barnes, however, doesn't attribute that to any divine insight as to how to scheme against the vexing trademark motion offense of college basketball's winningest coach.

Mason grows up through basketball
Daily Texan
Justin Mason recalls a time when he wasn't the best kid in town. There were a few fights at school. Some broken windows here and there. During Mason's younger days, he seemed to have a knack for finding trouble.

Texas baseball leads the way back
Waco Tribune
Before last season, Big 12 baseball teams had become a fixture in Omaha. Though a Big 12 record seven teams made the 2006 NCAA Tournament, none reached the College World Series for the first time since 1998. Nationally-seeded powerhouses Texas and Nebraska failed to make it out of their own regionals. The Big 12 hopes to rectify that this year. League favorite Texas will seek its third CWS title in six years, while Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas Tech are expected to field highly competitive teams that could make strong NCAA Tournament runs.

Bears' Benson hopes to rush to judgment soon
Austin American-Statesman
As expected, the ticket requests came in a deluge, but running back Cedric Benson wasn't about to be caught off guard. So he was the one doing the handing off, giving family members the responsibility for distributing 15 Super Bowl tickets. But then, the Chicago Bears backup has become more accustomed to role reversal than he'd like, after a star-studded college career in which he was the sixth-leading rusher in NCAA history.

Super Bowl futility for Longhorns
Austin American-Statesman
Cedric Benson won't be the first Longhorn to carry the ball in a Super Bowl, but he could become the first to make it to the end zone. Even though former Longhorns have appeared on 42 Super Bowl rosters, none has scored a touchdown.

Women's hoops:

OU's Courtney Paris comes to Austin with 47 straight double-doubles
Austin American-Statesman
In just one game, Texas A&M did the Texas women's basketball team a huge favor and a great disservice. First the favor. The Aggies knocked off Big 12 Conference-leading Oklahoma on Saturday, and in doing so, they provided a video blueprint on how best to defend 19-year-old Sooners center Courtney Paris, who is making a case as the best player in the country. Now the disservice. At best, OU will be surly tonight when the Sooners meet the Longhorns at the Erwin Center.

Conradt's players finding past difficult to recreate
San Antonio Express-News
Reminders of the historic pedigree surrounding the Texas women's basketball program aren't hard to find. They are at the Erwin Center, where an assortment of championship and Final Four banners circle the arena's ceiling. They are at Cooley Pavilion, where trophies and climactic photos line the walls of the team's practice facility. And on Monday, with those triumphant memories just feet away, the Longhorns were back at work, grinding hard, asking questions and trying to live up to the banners that were hung before them — because, of late, UT hasn't been.

Texas prepares for Sooner showdown
Daily Texan
The Texas women's basketball team needs a confidence boost after losing their last two games by a total of five points. Just don't expect No. 9 Oklahoma to be in a giving mood when the teams face each other in the Erwin Center today at 6 p.m.
