Shugarts Blowing Up
J.B. Shugarts is not only one of the most heavily recruited players in the "Lone Star State," but he is one of the most heavily recruited offensive tackles in the entire country. With a long and lean frame he looks thin despite the fact he is now checking in at over 300-pounds.

UT infrequent fliers when it comes to recruiting
San Antonio Express-News
There is much to like about Mack Brown's latest recruiting class at Texas. It has size. It has speed. It has depth. It has versatility. It has four-star blue-chippers out the wazzoo. It is, to use the somewhat meaningless parlance of recruiting analysts everywhere, high on upside. The downside? Brown and his staff didn't earn many frequent flier miles to land it.

Longhorns look for leadership
Daily Texan
After watching the Colts trample the Bears in last weekend's Super Bowl, Texas' basketball coaches have learned something about playing defense. No matter how much a team is struggling defensively, it ultimately comes down to wanting it most when it matters.

Texas tries to sidestep hard luck out West
Daily Texan
The Texas baseball team hasn't exactly had great experiences in California over the past few years. After all, it was Cal State-Fullerton that knocked the Longhorns out of the championship series in 2004. Last season, Texas traveled West only to lose three games to San Diego in its opening series. The most recent sting came again from San Diego, this time at home where the Texas baseball team lost two games out of three to the Toreros at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. But, according to catcher Preston Clark, the team is ready to start a new page when they travel to Long Beach, Calif. to play a three-game series with the Long Beach State 49ers.

Women's hoops:

Inconsistency a big concern for squad
Daily Texan
The only thing that has been consistent about the Texas women's basketball team recently is that they are inconsistent. In their last seven games, the Longhorns have experienced some of their most inspiring, as well as most disappointing performances of the season. However, a home game versus the conference's worst team could provide a measure of stability. The Longhorns (16-8, 5-5) will look to regain some continuity on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Kansas in the Erwin Center.
