Buckner Commits to Longhorns

Texas has always had success with tall receivers in their program. Roy Williams and Limas Sweed have used their size to dominate opposing defenders over the last five years. Who is the next big receiver to fill the void?

Allen, Texas wide receiver Dan Buckner verbally committed to the University of Texas during his junior day visit.

"I committed to Texas today," Buckner said. "I really picked Texas over Notre Dame. It's the best situation for me at the time. With Limas Sweed gone after this year, I might be able to play early. Texas has a need at the receiver position."

"It went good. It went real good," Buckner said when asked about his visit. "I got down there about 9:20 this morning about 10 minutes before registration ended. I got to meet with all of the coaches. When I got there, I was kind of lost. I found Coach Kennedy and he introduced me to all of the coaches. I got to talk to Coach Brown and look at the facilities and all that."

Buckner was very impressed with everything that Texas had to offer. He stressed academics more than anything though.

"It was real nice. The most important thing was that they were real big on academics. The first thing we saw was the academic center and computer labs. I got to see a little bit of the history behind Texas. I got to see the players' lounge with all the pool tables and TV's and stuff. It was just a real homey place to be," Buckner said.

Buckner had planned on going to a Notre Dame Junior Day in March, but he does not plan on visiting anywhere else.

"No, this is my final decision," Buckner said. "I don't need to go anywhere or see anything else."
