Poehlmann: The Next Great Brenham Commit

Brenham High School has produced at least nine quality Division I prospects from the classes of 2007 and 2008. The Longhorns have taken notice, recently signing Brandon Collins and Ahmard Howard and picking up early commitments from Luke Poehlmann and Ryan Roberson. Poehlmann talked about his commitment to Texas.

"I had an offer from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU and of course Texas," Luke Poehlmann said. "I was thinking about it after I took both visits (Texas and Texas A&M) and then I took two more. I'm sure if I had taken visits to Oklahoma and LSU that I would have liked those schools. But living in Texas, it just means a lot more to me to be able to play in Texas."

The decision came down to Texas and Texas A&M. The family atmosphere in Austin led to the decision.

"They both have fine coaching staffs," Poehlmann said. "At Texas, it was more like a family. The coaches are real easy to get along with. The atmosphere was great. I met some of their players when I was down there. It was just a better feel."

Poehlmann did not hear very much from the Longhorn coaching staff in the early stages of recruitment, but things picked up about a month ago.

"Maybe about a month ago," Poehlmann replied when asked how long the Longhorns had been recruiting him. "I had gotten a few letter and text messages and talked to them."

Defensive ends coach Oscar Giles recruited Poehlmann throughout the process.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Poehlmann is projected to play tackle at the University of Texas. He joins Austin's Mark Buchanan and Gilmer's David Snow to make up another solid class of offensive lineman heading to the 40 Acres.
