The decision came down to Texas and Texas A&M. The family atmosphere in Austin led to the decision.
"They both have fine coaching staffs," Poehlmann said. "At Texas, it was more like a family. The coaches are real easy to get along with. The atmosphere was great. I met some of their players when I was down there. It was just a better feel."
Poehlmann did not hear very much from the Longhorn coaching staff in the early stages of recruitment, but things picked up about a month ago.
"Maybe about a month ago," Poehlmann replied when asked how long the Longhorns had been recruiting him. "I had gotten a few letter and text messages and talked to them."
Defensive ends coach Oscar Giles recruited Poehlmann throughout the process.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Poehlmann is projected to play tackle at the University of Texas. He joins Austin's Mark Buchanan and Gilmer's David Snow to make up another solid class of offensive lineman heading to the 40 Acres.
