While Texas A&M awaits official word that Billy Gillispie is staying in College Station, there has been talk about Texas' Rick Barnes being a possible candidate for the vacant job at Kentucky. A Kentucky official told the Houston Chronicle this afternoon "there is no knowledge" of Kentucky asking permission to contact Barnes.

Texas sophomore right fielder Kyle Russell can't believe what he keeps seeing. Home runs are flying off his bat at a fast rate. The lanky left-handed slugger nicknamed "Stick" is threatening historic status in the Longhorns' rich history. All of his 6-foot-5, 185-pound frame is generating a power stroke that has pitchers holding their breath even at vast Disch-Falk Field.

Goestenkors finishes whirlwind tour of UT

Duke women's basketball coach Gail Goestenkors went through a full slate of interviews Wednesday with Texas athletic department officials as the Longhorns seek a replacement for Jody Conradt. But by late Wednesday, as Goestenkors readied for today's trip home to Durham, N.C., there was no news conference scheduled by Texas to announce whether she would be taking the job.

Duke women's basketball coach Gail Goestenkors, said to be the prime focus of Texas' search to replace famed coach Jody Conradt, was interviewed by UT officials Wednesday. Sources close to the hiring process said a substantial part of the meeting with Goestenkors involved strong sales pitches from UT officials about the merits of the job.
